Objective Peaks

Day 1:
Shingle Peak
9,825 feet (2,862 Prominence)

TH: Shingle Springs Corral

Stats: 7 miles/3,500 gain

Road: Shingle Pass Rd. 5.2 miles of graded dirt

Hike:

Shingle Peak is a high prominence peak in the southern end of the Egan Range. A great dirt road leaves NV-318 and heads to a corral where the standard route has taken shape. This hike will be a steep grind, completely off trail with some class 2 scrambling and light bushwhacking. We will camp somewhere along the Shingle Pass Rd and head over to the corral at daybreak to kick off the challenge.

As for bonus peaks, there are plenty of unclimbed peaks in this range. The next day's peak is only a short distance away so this could be a good chance to stack up summits!

Day 2:
Silver Benchmark
8,168 feet (2,025 prominence)

TH: Water Tank below Big Mud Springs

Stats: 5.5 Miles/2,000 gain

Road: Silver King Rd to Muleshoe Valley Rd

Hike:

Surprisingly, Silver Benchmark is part of the Schell Creek Range, even though it sits about 76 miles south of the High Schells Wilderness.

After driving approximately 17 miles from NV-318 on good roads that have been described as moderate clearance, possibly passenger car friendly, we will set off in the early morning. Camp will be setup somewhere along the drive in.

The hike follows an old ATV track most of the way as it climbs to Big Mud Pass. From there it’s off trail up to the summit. This has been regarded as a fun and pretty hike. The bonus options are aplenty, and anyone with a map can see the obvious one.

Afterwards, we will have about 30 miles of good dirt roads to connect to US-93 and then about 15 miles north to our next day’s objective. Going about 20 minutes south on 93 will take you into Pioche should you want a shower and bed, gasoline, or a hot meal.

Day 3:
Grassy Mountain
8,622 feet (1,993 prominence)

TH: Kixmiller Summit

Stats: 5 miles/2,000 gain

Road: Slide Hill Pass Rd. (3 miles)

Hike:

Today we find ourselves on the eastern end of the challenge area. Grassy Mountain fell just short of the Nevada P2K list by only 7 feet, which would still keep it in the margin of error.

We will drive 3 miles up Slide Hill Pass RD the night before and camp at Kixmiller Summit where the hike will start the next morning.

This is regarded as an easier hike and one that should allow you to hunt for some high quality bonus peaks afterwards or have a solid rest day.

The drive to the final objective peak trail is a short highway drive. So you can make this day whatever you want it to be.

Day 4:
Mount Montezuma
9,150 feet (1,746 prominence)

TH: Patterson Pass

Stats: 2.2 Miles/1,700 Gain

Road: Patterson Pass Rd.

Hike:

This is a very seldom climbed peak. Today we enter back into the Schell Creek Range to find this prominent gem. We will start from Patterson Pass which is accessed by a high quality dirt road coming off US-93. The night before we will plan to camp at the Patterson Pass Campground (yay, toilets!).

This makes the most sensible starting point and the climb will be short and steep. This will also be the spiciest climb of the objective peaks with some class 2+ scrambling on a knife edge. There is also one short class 3 move near the summit.

With a short hike, you have the option to stack up points or hit the road for home.
